5 Lazy Girl Moving Tips

These 5 tips made it so easy to move across the country!

Hello Everybody!

So it has been a hot minute since I have uploaded a post.  I was finally able to get one up yesterday but it had been about 3 weeks since the last one.  So many things in my life have changed but the biggest change is that I moved to Rhode Island.  That’s right I finally moved from Missouri to Rhode Island and I am so excited.  If you want to see more details about the move I will include a link to my moving vlog.  But for now this post is all about my moving tips.  I am not expert in moving despite the fact that I have moved numerous times.  However these are 5 things that changed the way I move.

These 5 tips made it so easy to move across the country!

 5 Lazy Girl Moving Tips

Throw Things Away

Before you even start packing go through all of your stuff and determine what you can throw out.  Are you going to be wearing that pair of shoes that has been in the box for year?  Have you ever even used that kitchen appliance?  If you find things that you know you are not going to use get rid of them.  There is no sense in moving things if they have no real purpose for your lifestyle.  So be realistic and declutter a little bit.

Tape Your Hangers

Packing hangers is the worst.  They might be the hardest things to pack. But I have found a way that makes it a little less terrible.  Take 10-15 hangers and tape them together.  By taping them together you cut down on the chance that they will get tangled in a complicated hanger knot.  This also makes it easier to store them in a bag or bin.

Cling wrap Your Drawer Organizers

I have two plastic drawer organizers and instead of dumping things out and packing them in boxes we used cling wrap to keep the drawers in the organizer.  This might just be my favorite moving hack because it was so simple. Plus the cling wrap was easy to take off, unlike duct tape.

Cling wrap Product Lids

If you have a full bottle of shampoo that you don’t want to throw out place cling wrap over the opening then secure the lid.  This is also a great travel tip just to make sure nothing spills.

Vacuum Seal Everything

This is by far the easiest way to pack clothes, coasts, blankets, bedding, pillows, etc.  Not only can you organize the bags into categories but it saves a ton of space.

Those were my 5 tips to make moving a little easier.  If you have any moving tips share them in the comments!

  1. Oh my gosh! Why did I never think of taping hangers? I have moved SOOOO many times in my life and I have never once thought about taping my hangers! I also heard of a great tip where you keep all of your clothes ON the hangers and then put it all in a garbage bag! Then you don’t have to rehang all of your clothes!

    1. I’ve done that before when I was just switching apartments but this time it was easier to fit things in the car if the clothes were compact.

  2. Good tips! Thanks for sharing 🙂 I normally hate moving…

  3. The timing of this post couldn’t be more perfect as I’m planning a move soon! I totally agree about decluttering before each move. The cling wrap trick is something I haven’t heard of, I’ll have to try that!

  4. I’m a biiiiiiiig advocate of throwing things away that you just don’t use, but I never heard of taping hangers. The more I think about it, it makes perfect sense to tie them together cuz those little suckers always get tangled up. Gotta try that next time. Doing that in reverse would also serve as a great prank on a friend who packed everything. “How did all these hangers get untied?!?!”

  8. Throwing things away is the #1 tip!!! Every time we’ve moved we’ve taken things with us to our new home that could have easily been thrown away BEFORE the move. It definitely saves time and money to get rid of it. If we haven’t used it since we’ve last moved, we’re probably not going to use it in the next move. Purge! LOL
